About The Event

Learn to Roll: Level 1 Roller Skating Classes (Ages 11 - 16)

Take your first steps into the exciting world of roller skating in our supportive, beginner-friendly classes! Our instructors specialize in teaching young skaters and know exactly how to build confidence while keeping safety the top priority. This mini-block of classes can either be booked week on week for the best progress, or on an ad-hoc basis. Our Level 1 Classes are intended for individuals with very little or no previous experience of skating. Very anxious individuals may also benefit from the gentle approach in our Level 1 classes.

What Your Child Will Learn:

  • Basic skating stance and proper form

  • Safe falling and getting back up techniques

  • Forward movement and gliding

  • Starting, stopping, and controlling speed

  • Balance exercises and core stability

  • Essential safety practices and equipment care

Our small class sizes ensure that each child receives personalized attention and guidance. This focused approach allows instructors to adapt their teaching methods to each student's learning style and progress rate. Your child will build confidence in a supportive environment where they can learn at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed.

Experienced instructors bring years of teaching and skating expertise, making learning both safe and fun. They know how to break down complex movements into simple, manageable steps that build your child's skills progressively. Through games, exercises, and positive reinforcement, they create an engaging atmosphere where children look forward to mastering new skills each week.

Classes run for one hour, which includes kit on and off time. Actual coaching time is about 45 minutes, the perfect duration to maintain young skaters' focus while providing plenty of practice time. All necessary safety equipment is provided, including helmets, wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads.

Class Safety:

We take safety in roller skating seriously. Your child must be on time for the class as we include a safety briefing, kit checks and warm up as an essential part of the class. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we reserve the right to not allow entry as it is disruptive and no refund will be given.

Clothes should be suitable for exercise and long hair should be tied back. Any earrings should be small studs or rings.

Accompanying adults:

Please note that due to limited space in the studio, we have room for one accompanying adult. Any babies or younger siblings are welcome, but should not distract the class. We expect accompanying adults to assist younger children with getting their kit on and helping them take it off at the end of the class. Please do not take video during the class.

Should your child need the toilet during class, the accompanying adult should support the child to the toilet.

Accompanying adults do not need to remain in the room while the session is in progress, but must remain on the Mabgate Mills site.

Children must be collected promptly at the end of the session. Should you be late to collect your child, we reserve the right to refuse further bookings for your child. If we are unable to contact you, we will reach out to your emergency contact. Failing this, we will contact the LADO (local authority designated officer) at Leeds City Council.

Discipline Policy

  1. Verbal warning for minor safety/behaviour issues

  2. Time-out from skating activity

  3. Parent conference for repeated issues

  4. Removal from class if behaviour endangers self or others

Instructors reserve the right to remove any student from class for unsafe behaviour or repeated rule violations. No refunds will be issued for dismissal due to safety violations.
