How to Spin on Your Toes

Updated: Mar 22

Spinning seems to be one of those skills that people want to learn... There are lots of different spins - some much easier to control, which makes them better for performing - some ridiculously technical... If you want to learn a sit spin - the toe spin is the one you'll need. I've given myself 10 years to learn that skill!

Heel toe spins tend to be the first spin type to learn. To spin on toes, you should be comfortable to roller skate without toe stops. It is possible to learn some of the steps with toe stops in, but you'll find that the knee isn't stacked over the toe properly, which will likely put your centre of gravity in a more challenging place to try and hold balance.

Way to practice spinning - little and often, with gaps in between to allow recovery in between.

I've been working on toe spins for at least 7 years and have learned from many different teachers along the way. This video is a summary of the skills progression in toe spinning.
